The vagaries of business life have been demonstrated during the past couple of weeks. We won some great new business from Eisai to help with the scientific platform and publication planning for their pipeline CNS product, E2007. But then...

The Day the Music Died—
A Contribution
by Nick Willhoft

The loss of gaboxadol was a kick in the teeth that we could have done without. First of all, with Merck involved, gaboxadol was destined to be a big brand. Second, it would have represented about 10% of our fee this year. And third, with Arcoxia® biting the dirt a few days later, how unlucky do you have to be to lose 2 big brands so close together? That’s the stuff we know. Now the dust has settled we should consider some of the lesser-known facts surrounding our experiences in the worlds of insomnia and pain.

Holiday Party

Once again we chose to have our holiday party in January to avoid the preholiday rush. The money we saved by thriftily having the event in January rather than December was poured into top-shelf liquor, Ogilvytinis, and fantastic party hats. The Manhattan Penthouse was again the perfect place to see the skyline, imbibe the Ogilvytinis, and groove and mingle with all of our OHW New York-based office mates. And to top it all off, Shelly Lazarus and other Ogilvy big wigs joined us and donned their favorite bonnets to celebrate a great year past and to toast best wishes for the new one. Best of all, Steve G. was well enough to join the festivities. Click here to see photographs courtesy of Kellie McCormick.

This issue's red star goes to Chetan Vijayvergiya for his sterling performance on the Allergan breast implant pitch team. He energetically contributed to the winning pitch and added great value. In Chris Clark's words, "Chetan was instrumental in highlighting our agency's science savvy but also jumped into the whole pitch with enthusiasm and panache, thinking outside the box and flashing a winning smile, no matter how tough the pitch preparation got."
